I am writing on behalf of a friend. She is looking for the research assembled by Bernie Smetzer on the Gardner family. She recalls meeting Mr. Smetzer in 1979 at that time she was not interested in this surname line. Now she is and would like to locate either Mr. Smetzer who lived in Crown Point at that time. I find a Bernie Smetzer died in 1991. I do not know if this is the same gentleman. Can you help direct us to where he may have placed a genealogy if he published or printed his research?
I would like to add a surname to the list and hopefully find relatives.
The surname is George. My gg grandfather's brother moved to Eagle in Lake County with a number of his children (1880 census). He (Thomas George) died 24 Oct 1903 in Le Roy. I would love to find an obituary in the local paper, but am unfamiliar with what newspaper(s) I should be looking for. I have no idea who or if any of the children married or what became of them.
I am looking for the death info and gravesite of my great-grandfather Alonzo Benninger. I have already requested a death certificate from the state of Indiana, and their search could not find one. The last record we have of him is an obituary from my grandfather's death stating that his father was still alive and living in Gary, Lake County, Indiana with his son Raymond Benninger in 1934. Alonzo Benninger was born about Mar 1854 in Brookeville, Jefferson, Pennsylvania. He would have been 80 years old in 1934. I believe he didn't live much longer than that. Family lore has his burial place in Indiana near where his son lived, rather than being buried back in Pennsylvania next to his wife who preceded him in death.
I have the general area where his son lived from the 1930 census, he lived on Fifth Ave in District 12, Gary City, Ward 2, bounded by (north) 4th Ave., (east) Harrison, (south) 5th Ave., and (west) Pierce. I would like to know which cemeteries in Gary were closest to this home. Could you send me the names, addresses and ownerships of these cemeteries so that I could do further research on my great-grandfather? If I had to guess the religion of this family, I would guess either Methodist or Protestant rather than Catholic.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my request for help!
